David succeeded his father, Frank Flear OBE, as a director, following his passing in 2019. Frank was the original chair of the organisation, a Grimsby seafood pioneer who played a major role in steering the development of the new Grimsby Fish Market in the early Nineties.  

He sits as the only private individual on the board and prides himself on bringing impartiality and complete independence to the role, as well as continuity of his family’s involvement.

Working with his father at both Bluecrest and, latterly, Seachill, David has bought fish in the shout auctions held daily on the market, and has toured various ports and fish markets to gain a greater understanding of the business.

David lives locally and has most recently looked after the family interests with his sister, Penny.
